REPUBLICANS MAY LEAVE CONSTITUENTS WITHOUT PROMISES ON HEALTH CARE
Washington (GIDSS.com)- Republicans are unlikely to present a significant overhaul to the health care program to replace the existing ObamaCare by the impending deadline for submission. This outcome may anger the GOP base which has believed in their party’s campaign promises.
Senate Republicans have proposed another alternative of using bipartisan bills to control the insurance market. However, Democrats have countered that this move will harm the insurance business significantly.
The GOP still has one achievement they cling to reversing the tax penalty imposed on those who do not purchase the insurance. Yet, by ending the current policy without preparing an alternative replacement will likely trigger insurance premiums to soar.
FEDERAL JUDGE TO TEMPORARILY BLOCK TRUMP’S EFFORT TO END DACA PROGRAM
Washington (GIDSS.com)- On late Tuesday night, a federal judge temporarily prevented President Trump’s attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, a long-term policy aimed at providing rights to children born from undocumented parents.
U.S. District Judge William Alsup approved to grant a request from several plaintiffs, such as California and the University of California, to block the Trump administration’s decision to phase out the program.
The Trump administration must continue the program until there is a final judgment, the judge ordered. Those protected by the policy (called”Dreamers”) are raising concern that Congress will have no power to carry out the Obama-backed system following prolonged delays.
Dreamers who have had their DACA applications approved must renew them before they expire. However, those who have never been protected by this program are currently not allowed to apply for this protection.
SURVEY SHOWS TRUMP LIKELY TO ESCAPE JUSTICE IN ELECTION MEDDLING CASE
Washington (GIDSS.com)- A survey conducted by POLITICO shows that nearly half of voters are confident that President Trump will be convicted of any wrongdoing in the Russia probe. The poll came following Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s move to target Trump’s inner circle for a further investigation.
Mueller has examined some of the president’s close aides, such as former press secretary Sean Spicer, White House Communication Director Hope Hicks, as well as ex-chief of staff Reince Priebus.
Trump’s ex-campaign manager Paul Manafort was found guilty in the investigation. So were former White House security adviser Michael Flynn (who admitted giving false testimonies to the FBI) and Manafort’s business colleague, Rick Gates.
In addition, the poll reveals that a majority of respondents expect Democrats to win seats in both the House and the Senate in the midterm elections.
U.S SENATE REPORT TO GIVE RECOMMENDATIONS TO DETER RUSSIA’S ELECTION INTERFERENCE
Washington (GIDSS.com)- The United States must set up a special body and work closely with its European allies to deter Russia from meddling in the election, a new Senate report suggests.
The document was released today by staff members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and highlight efforts from European countries to counter the so-called “Kremlin Policies.”
The report also sharply criticized the Trump administration for ignoring this interference which harms the country’s national security. (At press time, the White House had not yet commented on the report.)
SECRETARY OF STATE TO INTRODUCE NEW TRAVEL ADVISORIES TO U.S TRAVELERS
Washington (GIDSS.com)- The Department of State today has introduced a new travel advisory, aimed at providing more detailed, timely, and improved information regarding security and safety across the globe.
There are four levels of warning: Level 1 (Excercise Normal Precautions), Level 2 (Exercised Increased Precautions), Level 3 (Reconsider Travel), and Level 4 (Do Not Travel).
The new travel advisories come as the replacement for the previous Travel Warnings and Travel Alerts. Also, the new travel warning provides specific reasons for travellers so they can decide whether or not to visit particular countries.
The advice is listed under letters such as C (Crime), H (Health), U (Civil Unrest), T (Terrorism), N (Natural Disaster), O (Other-for some factors unrecorded by risk indicators), and E (Time-limited event).
TRUMP BLASTS JUDGE RULING ON DACA
Washington (GIDSS.com)- President Donald Trump vigorously slammed a federal judge’s ruling to block the administration from phasing out the DACA protection, saying that the verdict reflected “a broken system”.
The Justice Department responded by saying it would file an appeal to the federal judge Willian Alsup’s decision.
The court’s ruling will impact the Congress significantly as lawmakers are struggling to pass a bill that can support the post-DACA program for the program’s recipients.
Trump has reportedly criticized judges or law-enforcement officials who are against his administration policy. Last February, the president criticized a panel of judges who halted his travel ban.
